The Pittsburgh office of HFF (Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, L.P.) said it closed the sale of and arranged financing for the former Goodwill Headquarters located on the South Side. HFF managing director Mark Popovich exclusively represented the seller, Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania. Burns & Scalo Real Estate Services purchased the property for an undisclosed amount. Mr. Popovich assisted the buyer in arranging the acquisition/bridge loan through a local bank and also assisted in the identification and structuring of Goodwill's new headquarters location at 51st Street Business Center in Lawrenceville.

Controlling interests of MLS Electrosystem were acquired by the Matric Group and R2J Technologies from Standard Industrial Products Company. MLS Electrosystem has been engineering and manufacturing blade pitch control systems for utility grade wind turbines since 2000. MLS Electrosystem will be renamed Windurance LLC and continue to offer a full line of blade pitch control systems for existing and new customers worldwide.

McCrory and McDowell announced the launch of McCrory & McDowell Employment Solutions (MMES), a new executive recruiting services company. MMES provides staffing solutions for all companies and industries in the areas of accounting, finance and human resources. Joining McCrory & McDowell to lead the new practice area is Charles "Chuck" J. Conner. Mr. Conner, a certified personnel consultant, has spent the past 16 years specializing in the recruitment and placement of executive-level accountants, controllers, chief financial officers, financial analysts, auditors, treasurers, and human resource professionals.

Family Resources has acquired the assets, services and facilities of Parental Stress Center. Family Resources is the largest private nonprofit agency in Western Pennsylvania focused on preventing child abuse.

New Business/New Offices

MTG Law Group, LLC opened an office at 535 Smithfield Street, Suite 2428, Downtown. The firm specializes in estate planning, tax planning, business consultation, asset protection and captive insurance companies for high net-worth individuals and businesses. Led by Donald Monti, Daniel Thompson, and Jeffrey Getty, the firm counsels high net-worth individuals and families with tax and legal advice on their estate planning, investments, business activities and charitable endeavors. Mattress Discounters opened a store at the Cross Roads in the Lakeview Square, Peters Township, it brings the total of Mattress Discounters locations to 16 in Western Pennsylvania.

Grants/loans

The Colcom Foundation recently awarded a $150,000 grant to Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in support of outreach services for children and teens in the City of Pittsburgh. The grant will provide the opportunity for library staff to be out in the community more frequently by visiting day care centers, schools and community-based organizations. Children and teens throughout the city will receive outreach services, including storytimes, gaming opportunities and author visits, at childcare centers and public, private and parochial schools.
